Using Pintsch Tiefenbach gravity shunting systems (Pintsch Tiefenbach Microcomputer Controlled), marshalling/classification yards with gravity humps can be automated in a low-cost manner. The track control system is constructed using our proven points control systems in a modular design which are networked to a central gravity shunting computer (COMPEX® system) via 2-wire serial data buses. Controlling the gravity shunting system is carried out by personnel on the spot. The track routes can be entered via a track control panel with memory and display for the splitting-up list (EBA approved), or alternatively, over a control box with control buttons and built-in PC Visualization system. The points control system also allows points to be set locally by the shunting personnel. Using further proven Pintsch Tiefenbach system components from the area of high-performance classification yard systems, the splitting-up and combining operations can be extensively automated so that even with small and medium-sized gravity shunting systems, the whole operation can be handled with a high degree of logic and at a low cost. The components available for this include:
- Wagon hauling equipment for automatically clearing and closing-up on marshalling tracks
- Track retarder controls using the COMPEX system
- Microcomputer controlled piston retarder sets for defined braking on marshalling tracks
- Completely automated gravity shunting systems with combined braking and handling
- Simple to operate for marshalling personnel
- High level of operational safety with safety class SIL 2
- Low-maintenance interior and exterior systems with high availability
